Lime Cordiale

Lime Cordiale are an Australian pop rock group from Sydney, New South Wales, formed in 2009. The band consists of brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach, with additional members James Jennings, Felix Bornholt and Nicholas Polovineo.[1] They released their debut studio album Permanent Vacation in 2017. The group have performed at Groovin' the Moo[2] and South by Southwest (SXSW).[3] At the 2020 ARIA Music Awards they were nominated in eight categories and won Breakthrough Artist – Release for their second album, 14 Steps to a Better You (July 2020).

Career

2009–2016: Early EPs

Lime Cordiale formed in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia in September 2009[4] and consisted of brothers Oli Leimbach and Louis Leimbach, Brendan Champion and James Jennings. The group came about after they recognised their mutual love of all things pop and their desire to create original and exciting music. They began to perform gigs around Sydney[5]

After spotting them at a band competition, Icehouse frontman, Iva Davies promptly made contact and a mentoring partnership began with Iva and the band heading to the studio to produce some tracks. In 2011 Lime Cordiale supported Icehouse, on their comeback tour of 2011.[5] In 2011, the duo released three singles via Bandcamp and played over 60 live shows.[5]

In July 2012, Lime Cordiale released their debut extended play Faceless Cat, which included the single "Pretty Girl".[6]

In 2013, Lime Cordiale released their second extended play Falling Up the Stairs which included the singles "Bullshit Aside" and "Sleeping At Your Door". The EP was produced by Daniel Denholm.[4]

In 2015, they released three singles and in November 2015, released their third extended play Road to Paradise.

2017–2019: Permanent Vacation and 14 Steps to a Better You

In August 2017, Lime Cordiale released "Temper Temper", the lead single from their debut studio album, which was released in October 2017, titled Permanent Vacation,[7] which was produced by Dave Hammer.[8] Permanent Vacation peaked at number 79 on the ARIA charts.

In January 2019, their single "Dirt Cheap" placed 86th on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2018.[9]

In February 2019, they released the single "Money".[10]

In May 2019, they premiered their single "Inappropriate Behaviour" on Triple J where they also talked about their forthcoming new album.[11]

In September 2019, they released the single "Robbery", a song about "chasing after a girl who has stolen your heart". This came alongside the news of a national tour to support the release.[12]

In January 2020, they had four songs in the Triple J Hottest 100, 2019, with "Robbery" placing at number 7.[13]

In July 2020, the band released 14 Steps to a Better You, which peaked at number 1 on the ARIA Charts. A reissue, 14 Steps to a Better You (Relapse), was released on 13 November 2020 and includes an additional 6 tracks.

In November 2020, Lime Cordiale appeared on ABC TV's QandA.

2021–present: Cordi Elba and "Facts of Life"

In September 2021, Lime Cordiale released the single "Apple Crumble" and announced a collaborative EP with English actor and musician Idris Elba, titled Cordi Elba The EP was released on 14 January 2022[14] and peaked at number 9 on the ARIA charts. On 8 April 2022, Lime Cordiale released "Facts of Life".[15] In July, Lime Cordiale released "Country Club".[16]

The Environmental Music Prize is a quest to find a theme song to inspire action on climate and conservation. It commenced in 2022.[27]

Personal life

Oil and Louis' father is film producer Bill Leimbach[34] who has worked on Australian films and television shows such as Beneath Hill 60.[35]
