•   January 6 – The 99-year lease on Moffat Tunnel in Colorado is set to expire.^[1]
•   – Tampere light rail extension to Lentävänniemi.^[2]
•   – Planned completion of Los Angeles Metro Rail Foothill Extension to Pomona, California.^[3][4][5]

February

•   – Estimated start of South Shore Line service along the West Lake Corridor in Northwest Indiana.^[6]

April

•   – Delhi–Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System to be completed, allowing speeds up to 160 kilometres per hour (99 mph).^[7]

Unknown date

•   – Transperth's Armadale and Thornlie lines reopen after an 18-month closure for the Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project.^[8] At the same time, the Thornlie–Cockburn Link and the extension of the Armadale line to Byford will open.
•   – Metro Tunnel is planned to open, connecting north and south railway lines in Melbourne.^[9]
•   – Vienna U-Bahn line U5 opening.^{[citation needed]}
•    – Possible completion of Hasselt – Maastricht tramway.^{[citation needed]}
•   – O-Train Confederation Line (Ottawa) Stage 2 West extension earliest completion date.^{[citation needed]}

•   – Shenzhen Metro is claimed to exceed 1000 km length.^{[citation needed]}

•   – The final section of the 2 Line of the Link light rail system in Seattle is expected to begin service, connecting the city to the suburbs of Bellevue and Redmond. It will be the first rail system to use a fixed floating bridge.^[24]
•   – Dallas Silver Line commuter rail expected to open.^[25]
•   – Tentative scheduling for the start of Amtrak service from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.^[26]
