History & Organization

The Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo was founded on December 20, 1975, by decision of the Assembly of Kosovo.[1] Its first president was Esad Mekuli, who is considered to be the father of modern Albanian poetry in Yugoslavia.[2] The academy is organized in four divisions. Those include the division of linguistics and literature, the division of social sciences, the division of natural sciences and the division of arts.[3]

Annotations

  1. ^ ‹The template Kosovo-note is being considered for deletion.›  The political status of Kosovo is disputed. Having unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008, Kosovo is formally recognised as a sovereign state by 101 UN member states (with another 13 states recognising it at some point but then withdrawing their recognition) and 92 states not recognizing it, while Serbia continues to claim it as a part of its own territory.
