Saruq, Markazi

Saruq (Persian: ساروق), also Romanized as Sārūq; also known as Qal‘eh-ye Sārūq, Qal‘eh-ye Bālā, Qal‘eh-ye Bālā Sārūq, Sārūqi, and Sūrakh,[3] is a city in, and the capital of, Saruq District of Arak County, Markazi province, Iran.[4] It also serves as the administrative center for Saruq Rural District.[5]

At the 2006 census, its population was 2,189 in 647 households, when it was in Saruq Rural District of the Central District.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 1,386 people in 452 households,[7] by which time the rural district had been separated from the district in the establishment of Saruq District.[4] At the same time, the village of Saruq was elevated to the status of a city.[8] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 1,345 people in 467 households.[2]
