MusiCares
MusiCares Foundation is a U.S. based, independent 501(c)(3) charity organization that provides preventive, emergency, and recovery programs supporting the health and welfare of the music community.[3] MusiCares was established in 1989 and incorporated in 1993[1] by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, now known as the Recording Academy,[4] MusiCares offers direct emergency financial assistance, networks of support resources, and tailored crisis relief efforts[5] in three key programming areas:
- Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services include support, referrals, and emergency financial assistance for counseling, psychiatric care, inpatient treatment, coaching, intensive outpatient care, and sober living. MusiCares also offers sober spaces known as Safe Harbor Rooms backstage at several major music festivals and events around the U.S.
- Health Services include financial assistance during medical crises and preventive services such as dental and medical screenings, hearing clinics, vocal health workshops, and assistance obtaining low-cost health insurance.
- Human Services include support for basic living expenses in times of hardship. Examples include rent, utilities, car payments and insurance premiums in times of hardship, plus programs addressing affordable housing, career development, legal issues and senior services.

Musicians Assistance Program (MAP) Edit
In September 2004, MusiCares acquired the Musicians Assistance Program, a similar addiction recovery services program founded by longtime musician and addiction recovery activist Buddy Arnold.[9]
To help raise funding for the program, the MAP Fund Benefit Concert, later known as Concert for Recovery, was held annually between 2005[10] and 2019.[11] Among the awards given at the event was the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award, named after the late guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, which recognizes musicians for their devotion to helping other addicts struggling with the recovery process.[12]
