Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University

Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (MSCB University),[1] formerly North Orissa University (NOU), is a public university in the regional city of Baripada in the state of Odisha, India.[2]

This university mainly provides higher education through on-campus as well as distance education modes. It aims to provide job-oriented technical courses.[3]

University at a Glance Edit

By notification No. 880 dated July 13, 1998, the Odisha government created the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (MSCB University), formerly known as North Orissa University (NOU), in accordance with Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Act 5 of 1989).

It was separated from Utkal University and has been operating as an affiliating university at Takatpur (98.84 acres) of Baripada in the Mayurbhanj District of Odisha since 1999. With effect from 15 February 2000 and 21 June 2006, respectively, the University Grants Commission has granted recognition to the institution in accordance with Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The northern districts of Odisha, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar, which are heavily inhabited with tribal groups, are under the university's territorial jurisdiction. NOU's jurisdiction includes 103 institutions (Mayurbhanj-65 + Keonjhar-38), including 2 Autonomous institutions, 2 Law Colleges, and 3 Teachers' Education (B.Ed.) Colleges (including one specifically for physically challenged students), which provide graduate and post-graduate education to numerous students.[4]

The Bar Council of India, DEC, IGNOU, NCTE, as well as the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities all recognise MSCB University.

The Government of Odisha under the Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Act 5 of 1989), established the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University and notified vide notification No. 880 dated 13 July 1998. The university is included in the list of Universities maintained under section 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956,[5] to impart higher education in the Tribal base area of Northern Odisha.

On 23 December 2020, the 150th birth anniversary of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo, CM of Odisha announced that North Orissa University of Mayurbhanj district will now be known as Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University as the institution has been renamed after the erstwhile King of the princely state of Mayurbhanj.[6]

Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University has two campuses, a main campus in Baripada, the district headquarters of Mayurbhanj, Odisha and a second campus at Suleikhamar, near Kendujhargarh in Kendujhar district.

Colleges Edit

Its jurisdiction extends to Mayurbhanj district. The university affiliates 55 Colleges in Mayurbhanj.

Accreditation Edit

MSCB was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A grade in third assessment cycle with a score of 3.1 out of 4 points.[7][8]
