Khalid Hassan Milu

Khalid Hassan Milu (April 6, 1960 – March 29, 2005)[1] was a Bangladeshi singer. He received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1994.[1]

Career

As a little boy, he saw his father Mosadder Ali Mia involved in music. He was inspired by his father and started a career in music. He started his career by using his father harmonium. He was trained by Robin Das, Souresh Das and a few other people. He debuted his music career with the album Ogo Priyo Bandhobi in 1980.[2] He has rendered about 5,000 songs. He went on to release 12 other solo albums.[1] He performed as a playback singer in about 250 films.[1] Among his 12 other solo albums Protishodh Nio, Neela, Shesh Bhalobasha, Ayna and Manush are noteworthy. He had performed songs in about 250 films, including Shajani o shajani, Anek shadhonar porey, Je prem and others. He received the National Film Awards in 1994 and also many other prizes, including BACHSHASH awards.[2]

Personal life, illness and death

Milu married Fatema Hasan Polash on February 17, 1986. Together they have two sons, Protic Hasan (born January 12, 1987) who’s a singer and Pritom Hasan (born January 27, 1993), who is a singer, music composer, actor and model.[3][4] His son Pritom Hasan has said on Facebook that Milu was a fan of Elvis Presley. Milu performed his last song Jiboner Ei Anondomoy Din on the magazine television show Ityadi with his son Protic on November 2004.

Milu was ill from 2000 to 2005. During the time he was sick, he and his family lived in Tongi. They resided in Safiuddin Road. He had to stop singing for a while due to his illness which caused his family to financially struggle. He suffered from a brain hemorrhage in 2001 and reportedly visited Bangkok twice for treatment.[5] He went to Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand for treatment on May 19, 2004 with the help of Hanif Sanket, James, Baby Naznin, Izaz Khan Swapon, Andrew Kishore, Fakir Alamgir and more artists by raising funds for him. He came back to Bangladesh on May 25, 2004 after his treatment.

On March 23, 2005 he was admitted to Monowara Hospital and died from liver cirrhosis on March 29, 2005, at 12:10 am.[1] His grave is located in Mirpur, Dhaka.
