Janad Region

Janad Region (Arabic: إقليم الجند, romanizedIqlim Al-Jund) or Al-Janad Region is one of the six federal regions of Yemen that is expected to be established in the upcoming constitution, becoming an autonomous federal self-governing region in southwestern Yemen. the Janad Region comprises two Yemeni Wilayat or States: Taiz and Ibb, with Taiz being its capital.[1]

Name edit

The region was named Al-Jund based on the historical significance gained by the renowned Jund Mosque, which was built by Ma'adh ibn Jabal in the sixth year after the Hijrah, when the prophet Muhammad sent him to invite the Yemenis to Islam.

Languages and dialects edit

Iqlim Al-Jund includes both Taiz Governorate, the capital of the region, and Ibb Governorate, which are intertwined in terms of customs, traditions, and dialects. They share the same dialect with the exception of the northern regions of Ibb Governorate, where the dialect of those areas is closer to the dialect of Azal region.
