Early life edit

He was born to Lakhu Ram Meghwal and Hira Devi in the small village of Kishmidesar in Bikaner, Rajasthan. He is a Master of Arts in Pol. Science, LLB and MBA from Dungar College in Bikaner and University of Philippines in Philippines.[1][2]

After completing graduation in Law in the year 1977, he completed post-graduation in Arts in the year 1979 as a regular student.[citation needed]

Political life edit

In 2009, he was elected as a Member of Parliament[3] representing the Bhartiya Janata Party from Bikaner constituency.

In the general election of 2014, he was re-elected from the Bikaner constituency for the 16th Lok Sabha.[citation needed] He was Chief Whip of Bhartiya Janta Party in the Lok Sabha and Chairman of the House Committee.[citation needed]

In May 2019, Meghwal became Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.[4]

Controversy edit

High court bench demand in Agra hasn’t been fulfilled by him. Even Lahore High Court is closer than Allahabad. People have to travel 700 km away to Allahabad for hearings. In fact, 6 high courts (Shimla, Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Nainital, Jammu) from other states are closer than Allahabad from western Uttar Pradesh.

This caused a lot protest and damage to property in Agra. [5]

Personal life edit

He is married to Pana Devi with whom he has two sons and two daughters. He is a good player of badminton and was a bureaucrat by profession.[6] His cousin Madan Gopal Meghwal is also a politician from Indian National Congress.[7]
