2024 United States attorney general elections
The 2024 United States attorney general elections will be held on November 5, 2024, to elect the attorneys general of ten U.S. states. The previous elections for this group of states took place in 2020, while Vermont's attorney general was last elected in 2022.[1]

These elections will take place concurrently with the 2024 presidential election, elections to the Senate and House of Representatives, and various other state and local elections.
Election predictions Edit
Several sites and individuals published predictions of competitive seats. These predictions looked at factors such as the strength of the incumbent (if the incumbent is running for re-election), the strength of the candidates, and the partisan leanings of the state (reflected in part by the state's Cook Partisan Voting Index rating). The predictions assigned ratings to each seat, with the rating indicating the predicted advantage that a party has in winning that seat.
Most election predictors use:
- "tossup": no advantage
- "tilt" (used by some predictors): advantage that is not quite as strong as "lean"
- "lean": slight advantage
- "likely": significant, but surmountable, advantage
- "safe": near-certain chance of victory

Indiana Edit
Attorney General Todd Rokita was elected in 2020 with 58.3% of the vote.[31] He is running for re-election.[5]
Missouri Edit
Attorney General Andrew Bailey was appointed in 2023 after his predecessor, Eric Schmitt, resigned after being elected to the United States Senate. Bailey has stated that he plans to run for election to a full term.[6] Republican former assistant U.S. Attorney Will Scharf is running for the seat.[8]
Montana Edit
Attorney General Austin Knudsen was elected in 2020 with 58.5% of the vote. He is eligible to seek re-election, but has not stated whether he will do so. Democratic attorney Ben Alke is running against him.[10]
North Carolina Edit
Attorney General Josh Stein was re-elected in 2020 with 50.1% of the vote. He is retiring to run for governor.[11]
Republican U.S. Representative Dan Bishop is running for the seat,[12] as are Democrats lawyer and Marine Corps veteran Tim Dunn, and lawyer and U.S. Navy Reserve veteran Charles Ingram.[13][14]
Oregon Edit
Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum was re-elected in 2020 with 56% of the vote. She is eligible to seek re-election, but stated in September 2023 that she will retire.[15] Democratic House Speaker Dan Rayfield is running for the office, as is Republican International Justice Mission executive country director Will Lanthrop.[17][16]
Pennsylvania Edit
Attorney General Josh Shapiro resigned after being elected governor. Deputy attorney general Michelle Henry was appointed as the new attorney general and she was confirmed by the state senate. She is not running for a full term.[18]
Democratic candidates include former Philadelphia chief public defender Keir Bradford-Grey, former Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale and former Bucks County solicitor Joe Khan.[19][20][21]
York County district attorney David Sunday is the sole Republican candidate thus far.[23]
Utah Edit
Attorney General Sean Reyes was re-elected in 2020 with 60.6% of the vote. He is eligible to seek re-election, and stated in September 2023 that he will do so.
Vermont Edit
Attorney General Charity Clark was elected in 2022 with 61.3% of the vote. She is eligible to seek re-election, but has not yet stated if she will do so.
Washington Edit
Attorney General Bob Ferguson was re-elected in 2020 with 56.4% of the vote. He is retiring to run for governor.[24]
Democratic former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington Nicholas Brown and state senator Manka Dhingra are running for the position.[25][26]
West Virginia Edit
Attorney General Patrick Morrisey was re-elected in 2020 with 63.8% of the vote. He is retiring to run for governor.[27]
Republican state senator and majority whip Ryan Weld announced his candidacy for the office in April 2023,[30] state senator and former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Michael Stuart joined him in May, and Auditor JB McCuskey joined them both in July.[29]
