The Salford Red Devils announced the establishment of the women's team in October 2021.[2] On 15 January 2022, the team played their first game; a pre-season friendly against the Swinton Lionesses.[3] In the 2022 season, Salford won the League Cup and the League Leaders’ Shield in the Championship, but lost in the Grand Final to Oulton Raidettes. However, with Oulton opting to remain in the Championship, Salford were promoted to the 2023 RFL Women's Super League.[4] In 2023, Salford made their debut in the Challenge Cup.[5] In Group 2 of the Super League a 28–10 semi-final play-off loss to the Leigh Leopards[6] saw them demoted to the second tier of the national pyramid due to the restructuring of the League for 2024.[7]
