He reached international level in 2012 and competed in two events at the African Championship where he reached the high jump podium with a jump of 2.15 m (7 ft 12 in), taking the bronze medal. In 2014 he competed at the 2014 African Championships in Athletics and 2014 Commonwealth Games without reaching the podium.

His breakthrough came in 2015, when he won the 2015 national trials with a national record height.[2][3] A jump of 2.21 m (7 ft 3 in) brought him the gold at the 2016 African Championships in Athletics. This made him the first Kenyan to win that title.[4]
