Macaná, Guayanilla, Puerto Rico

Macaná is a rural barrio in the municipality of Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1483.[3][4]

Features and demographics

Macaná has 1.43 square miles (3.7 km2) of land area and no water area. In 2010, its population was 1,483 with a population density of 1,037.1 inhabitants per square mile (400.4/km2).[5]

History

Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the combined population of Macaná and Barrero barrios was 1,154.[13]
