List of local government political parties in Australia

In addition to political parties registered at state and national level in, a number of political parties compete solely in local government elections in Australia.

A number of these parties are registered with the New South Wales Electoral Commission.[1] Members of major parties, including the Australian Labor Party and Liberal Party of Australia, also contest local government elections.[2] The Australian Greens have endorsed councillors in a number of states and territories.[3]

Queensland edit

In 2012, Bob Manning announced his intention to run for mayor of the Cairns Regional Council in Queensland with a team of candidates under the name "Unity 2012". Kevin Byrne, a former mayor, had previously run his team under the banner of "Cairns Unity Team".[21][22] Cairns Unity councillors were most recently elected in 2020.[23]
