Kumbazha

Kumbazha is a main junction in the Pathanamthitta Municipality of Pathanamthitta Town, located in Kerala state, India. The Achenkovil river flows through Kumbazha. The Thiruvalla - Kumbazha (SH-7) road, also known as the T.K road, ends at Kumbazha.[1] Kumbazha was a popular marketplace back in old times and got its name from the Malayalam word "Kumbhi" meaning an elephant.

Kumbazha Jn. is 3 km away from Pathanamthitta Central Jn and is considered as the east exit of Pathanamthitta town. It is the meeting point of two major state highways, T.K.Road (SH - 07) and Main Eastern Highway (Punalur-Pathanamthitta-Muvattupuzha Road / SH - 08). The proposed new MC road (Thiruvananthapuram–Angamaly Greenfield Highway) passes through Kumbazha.

Pilgrim Centres edit

Kumbazha is the gateway to the Malayalappuzha Devi Temple. Valanchuzhy temple, St. Mary's Orthodox Valiya Cathedral and St. Simeon's Cathedral, and many other pilgrim centres.

Kumbazha is also a home to many Christians, churches can be found almost in every corner of Kumbazha. Kumbazha St. Mary's Orthodox Valiya Cathedral is the oldest and considered as the mother of all Churches in Kumbazha.

Festivals edit

Samyuktha Christmas Aakhosham (celebration in English) is conducted every year on 25 December with the participation of people from various religions. The 50th consecutive festival was conducted in 2022. This Celebration is considered as the biggest Christmas celebration in the Central Travancore which brings more than a thousand of people to the junction to witness this annual festival which is more or less considered as an annual show down to its native people.
