Kristiina Mäki

Kristiina Hannele Mäki (born 22 September 1991) is a Finnish-born runner who represents the Czech Republic in international competitions.

Background

Kristiina was born in Seinäjoki, Finland and moved to the Czech Republic with her parents at the age of three. Her father is Finnish and mother from the Czech Republic, both former runners.[1]

Running career

In February 2014 Kristiina ran the fastest Finnish indoor time of 21st century 9.02,14 and she also won gold medals from 2014 Finnish indoor championships from both 1500 and 3000 meters. She now represents solely the Czech Republic.

In June 2014 Kristiina broke the 14-year-old record of Marjo Venäläinen on rarely run 2000 meters and was also the first Finnish women who was able to break the 6 minutes limit. The new record is 5.42,71. Still in same month she broke the qualifying limit to Zurich European Championship on 5000 meters. The result 15.35,82 was best Finnish time of 21st century and all time fourth in Finland. In August 2014 Kristiina got silver in 1500 m. from Finnish outdoor championships.

Kristiina is current Czech record holder on 2000 meters, 3000 meters [2] and 5000 meters.[3] She has also won gold medal from Czech championships on 5000 m (2013) and 1500 m indoors (2013 & 2014) and 3000 m indoors (2013).
