Following India's independence, NEFA transformed into Arunachal Pradesh, and Kharsang became a part of this newly formed state. The geopolitics of Kharsang saw significant shifts, particularly during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. After independence, Kharsang experienced substantial development and growth, transitioning from a primarily agrarian society to a diversified economy with the emergence of the oil industry and improved connectivity with other parts of India.[citation needed]
