Gray Simons

Elliott Gray Simons (born August 13, 1939) is an American former wrestler. He competed at the 1960 Summer Olympics and the 1964 Summer Olympics in freestyle wrestling.[1] Simons later served as head coach at Lock Haven, Indiana State, Tennessee and Old Dominion.[2]

As a collegiate wrestler, Simons was a four-time NAIA champion and three-time NCAA champion. He was twice voted as the Outstanding Wrestler of the NCAA tournament and four times voted Outstanding Wrestler of the NAIA tournament, being named outstanding wrestler in six of seven national meets, an accomplishment that has never been repeated.[3]

In 1978, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member.[4]
