The station opened 1 January 1920 as part of the Ome Electric Railway (青梅電気鉄道).[1] The Ome Electric Railway was nationalized on 1 April 1944, and absorbed into the Japanese National Railways (JNR).[1] With the privatization of Japanese National Railways (JNR) on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR East.[1]

In fiscal 2014, the station was used by an average of 475 passengers daily (boarding passengers only).[2]
