Fabian Rieder (born 16 February 2002) is a Swiss professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Ligue 1 club Rennes and the Switzerland national team.

Club career edit
Rieder was born in Koppigen, and is a youth product of the academy of Young Boys.[2] He made his professional debut with Young Boys in a 0–0 Swiss Super League tie with Servette on 17 October 2020.[3] He made his first Continental appearance with Young Boys in a 2–1 defeat to Roma in the Europa League on 22 October 2020.[4] He played in all six of Young Boys UEFA Champions League group stage matches in the 21–22 season, scoring his first continental goal in a 1–1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.[5]
On 31 August 2023, Rieder joined French side Rennes for a reported fee of €15 million (including add-ons),[6] signing a four-year contract with the club.[6][7]
International career edit
Rieder played for all Swiss youth national teams, before being called up for the senior national team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.[8] At the World Cup, he made his debut in a 1–0 win over Cameroon as a substitute in 81st minute,[9] before making his first start in the next match against Brazil.[10]
