Carter Swift

Carter Swift^[1] (born (1998-12-01)1 December 1998)^[2] is a New Zealand swimmer who specialises in Freestyle.

Swimming career

Swift began swimming at a young age under Wilhemnia O'Callaghan and his mother Michelle Swift, who was the head coach of Shepparton Swimming Club. Swift later joined Eastern Michigan University's men's swim and dive team in the latter half of 2017. He transferred to Arizona State University following his freshman year.^[3][4]

Throughout his College Career, Swift went on to become a 9-time NCAA Division 1 All-American with the Sun Devils penultimately finishing his career with a runner-up finish in the 4x100 Freestyle relay at the NCAA Division 1 Championships.

Swift has gone on the be one of the fastest Freestyle sprinters in New Zealand, holding multiple national records across individual and relay events. He has become a staple name in the 100m Freestyle on the domestic and international stage.

He is the current national record holder in the 100m Freestyle(SCM)

College Highlights

REDSHIRT SENIOR (2021-22)

• Named a CSCAA First-Team Scholar All-American
• Helped the Sun Devils place 6th overall in the team standings at the NCAA Championships for their highest finish since 1982 by racing in the 400 free relay (2nd) and the 50, 100 and 200 free (3/23-3/26)
• Competed at his last Pac-12 Championships, in which he won the 800 free relay, placed 2nd in the 200 & 400 free relays, 4th in the 100 free and 12th in the 50 free and 200 free (3/2-3/5)
• In the final regular season meet of his Sun Devil career, won the 50 free and 400 free relay and finished second in the 100 free against Arizona (2/5)
• Won the 100 free and placed second in the 50 free and 200 free relay against Cal (1/22)
• Won the 400 free relay and placed third in the 100 free and fourth in both the 50 free and 200 free against Stanford (1/21)
• Won the 200, 400 and 800 free relay and placed third in the 100 and 200 free at the NC State Invite
• Won the 400 free relay, finished second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free and 200 medley relay on 11/6 against USC

SENIOR (2020-21)

• No regular season; entire roster redshirted

JUNIOR (2019-20)

• Took second in the 50 and 100 free against Utah (10/25)
• Won the 50 free and placed third in the 100 free against USC (11/1)
• Placed second in the 100 free, third in the 200 free and sixth in the 50 free at the Wolfpack Invitational
• Won the 100 free while taking second in the 50 and 200 free against Northwestern (1/4)
• Won the 100 free and took second in the 50 free against Stanford (1/24)
• Took second in the 100 free and third in the 200 free against Texas (1/31)
• Swept the 50 and 100 free against Arizona (2/8)
• Placed second in the 100 free, fourth in the 200 free and ninth in the 50 free at the Pac-12 Championships

SOPHOMORE (2018-19)

• Placed ninth in the 50 and 100 free and 12th in the 200 free at the Indiana Invitational
• Won the 100 free while taking third in the 50 and 200 free against Stanford (1/26)
• Won the 100 free while taking third in the 200 free against Arizona (2/9)
• Placed sixth in the 200 free, 10th in the 200 free and 17th in the 50 free at the Pac-12 Championships
• Competed at the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships in the 50 and 100 free

AT EASTERN MICHIGAN (2017-18)

• Was Freshman of the Year and MAC Swimmer of the Year
• Conference champion in the 100FR and 200FR
