Pre-season edit

At Mountain West media days, the Cowboys were picked to finish last in the Mountain Division.[5] Additionally, three players were named to the pre–season all–conference team: junior running back Brian Hill, senior offensive lineman Chase Roullier, and sophomore free safety Andrew Wingard.[6] Hill was also named to the watchlists for the Maxwell Award[7] and the Doak Walker Award,[8] Roullier was named to the watchlists for the Outland Trophy[9] and the Lombardi Award,[10] Wingard was named to the watchlist for the Jim Thorpe Award,[11] and senior punter Ethan Wood was named to the watchlist for the Ray Guy Award.[12]
