2009 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship for Women

The 2009 FIBA Europe Under-18 Women's Championship or simply known as the 2009 Youth EuroBasket, was the 26th edition of the Under-18 European Championships. This tournament was hosted by Sweden for the first time in the history of the championships. The tournament was awarded to Spain for the third time after defeating the France in the final, 64–54. The hosts, Sweden clinched the bronze medal after beating Czech Republic, 67–54.

Format

Tournament Format
Preliminary Round
  • 16 teams will be split into 4 groups of 4 teams each. They will be playing in a single round-robin format.
  • At the end of the preliminaries, only the top three teams will qualify for the second round, while the last placed team will play for the 13th–16th place classification stage.
Second Round
  • The qualifying teams from Groups A and B forms Groups E, and teams from Groups C and D, forms Group F. Those teams in each group will play again in single round-robin format.
  • At the end of the second round, only the top FOUR (4) teams in each group will qualify for the final round (knockout stage), and the bottom two teams will be relegated to the 9th–12th place classification stage.
Classification Stage for the 13th–16th places
  • The bottom teams in each group in the preliminaries proceeds to this stage. They will play in a single round-robin format. The top team in this group will finish at 13th, the runner-up at 14th, the third finishing at 15th, and the last placer finishing at 16th.
Classification Stage for the 9th–12th places
  • The bottom two teams in the second round proceeds to this stage. They will play in a 4-team knockout bracket, where the winning teams from the classification semifinals will battle for 9th place and losers play for 11th place.
Final Round
  • The top four teams from the second round will advance to the crossover quarter-finals. The pairing in the quarter-finals are the following:
    • E1 vs. F4 / E2 vs. F3 / E3 vs. F2 / E4 vs. F1
  • The winners of the quarterfinals advance to the semifinals, and losing teams proceed to the 5th-8th place classification semifinals.
  • The winners of the semi-finals proceed to play in the gold medal match while losers proceed to play in the bronze medal match.
