Reception edit

A critic from The New Indian Express wrote that "The deep bonding between a rustic grandpa and his city-bred little grand daughter, each filling up the emotional void in the other, is narrated with a fair amount of interest in Vannathupoochi. The film carries a relevant message to the parents, on the importance of sensitising themselves to the emotional needs of their children".[1] A critic from Dinamalar wrote that "Azhagappan C. should be commended for capturing the children's future and urban parents who forget the present and live mechanically and the children indecencies beautifully and vividly".[2] A critic from Indiaglitz wrote that "At a time when filmmakers go behind commercial potboilers, director Rasi Azhagappan has the guts to render a movie that is more relevant for today's world".[3]

In a mixed review, a critic from IANS rated the film two out of five stars and wrote that "Rasi Azhhagappan can be appreciated for taking a theme that is far from commercial cliches, but at the same time he fails to handle it with maturity".[4] In a negative review, a critic from Behindwoods rated the film 12 out of 5 stars and wrote that "Music is by Rehan and the song Kaatril penned by Pazhani Bharathi is just passable. Besides that the film fails to evoke any kind of feeling. There is absolutely nothing to speak about other aspects of the film".[5]

Awards edit

The Central Board of Film Certification gave the film the Children Future Film award.[6] Sri Lakshmi won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Child Artist for her role in the film.[7]
