Career edit

Born in Kampung Bantar Jati, Klapanunggal, Jonggol, Bogor Regency, Ramadhanti grew up training in her father's badminton club before she was spotted by Tri Kusharjanto, who helped her prepare to enter PB Djarum badminton club.[3] She joined the team in 2014 as a women's singles player, but was transferred to the doubles sector in 2015 to partner Agatha Imanuela in women's doubles and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto in mixed doubles.[3]

In 2016, she won the Jakarta Open Junior International tournament in the U-17 girls' doubles event partnered with Agatha Imanuela.[4] Ramadhanti made her debut at the BWF Superseries tournament with Imanuela in Indonesia Open but lost in the first round to the Danish pair.[5] In October 2016, she competed at the Badminton Asia U-17 Junior Championships and won the girls' doubles gold with Imanuela and mixed doubles bronze with Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto.[6] In 2017, she reach the girls' doubles semi-finals at the German Junior, Thailand Junior, mixed doubles semi-finals at the India Junior Grand Prix, girls' doubles final at the Jaya Raya Junior Grand Prix, India Junior Grand Prix, and also mixed doubles final at the Malaysia Junior tournaments.[2]

Ramadhanti was called up to the national team in 2017 after winning the 2017 National Championships with Kusharjanto.[3] In August 2017, Ramadhanti won the mixed doubles gold, mixed team silver, and girls' doubles bronze at the Asian Junior Championships.[7][8] Ramadhanti was selected to join the Indonesia national team for the 2017 World Junior Championships, where she and Kusharjanto settled as runner-ups to compatriots Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari in three games.[9] Later on, Ramadhanti reached the semifinals of Indonesia International Series with Imanuela.[10] She won her first senior international tournament at the Indonesia International Challenge in the mixed doubles event with Kusharjanto.[11]

In 2018, Ramadhanti reached the quarterfinals in the Thailand Masters with Imanuela.[12] In July, she won bronze medals in the mixed team and girls' doubles at the Asian Junior Championships in Jakarta.[13][14] At the 2018 World Junior Championships, she won a mixed doubles silver and two bronze medals in the team and girls' doubles.[15][16][17]

2019: Partnership with Ribka Sugiarto, climbing up the senior team ranks edit

In the first half of the 2019 season, Ramadhanti's partnership with Imanuela did not show satisfactory results, with their best result being a semifinal in the Orléans Masters.[18] She was then paired with Ribka Sugiarto, and made their debut as quarter-finalists at the Russian Open in July.[19] Not long after they were paired, Ramadhanti and Sugiarto won their first World Tour title at the Indonesia Masters Super 100.[20] Some of their achievements were also being semi-finalists in the Chinese Taipei Open, where they beat second seed Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan;[19][21] and also being quarter-finalists in the Macau Open.[19] She took part in the 2019 SEA Games and obtained silver for Indonesia in the women's team event.[22] In the individual event, Ramadhanti and Sugiarto lost at the quarterfinals to second seed Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean.[23]

In 2021, Ramadhanti competed at the 2021 Sudirman Cup in Vantaa, Finland. She played one match in the group stage against Russia.[24] She continued her journey at the 2020 Uber Cup in Denmark, in which she and the Indonesian team finished 2-3 against Thailand in the quarterfinals.[25] During the European leg, her best finishes were quarterfinals at the French Open[26] and semifinals at the Hylo Open.[27] After exiting the Indonesia Masters at the first round, Ramadhanti and Sugiarto were withdrawn from the Indonesia Open as Sugiarto was diagnosed with anterior cruciate ligament injury.[28]

2022: New partnership with Apriyani Rahayu edit

With Greysia Polii's impending retirement, Ramadhanti was one of the players considered to become Apriyani Rahayu's new partner. She continued with Ribka Sugiarto at the Badminton Asia Championships in March, where they reached the quarterfinals.[29] Ramadhanti's supposed debut with Rahayu at the Swiss Open was halted after Rahayu suffered a calf injury at the All England Open, which was also her last ever tournament with former partner Polii.[30]

The Indonesian Badminton Federation officially announced the Ramadhanti-Rahayu partnership in May 2022.[31] They debuted at the SEA Games as silver medalists at the team's event and gold medalists of the individual event after overcoming Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard.[32] Ramadhanti and Rahayu went to win the Malaysia and Singapore Opens,[33][34] and became runner-up at the Indonesia Masters.[35] Ramadhanti played her final match with Sugiarto at the World Championships round of 32.[36]

Despite their rapid rise, Ramadhanti and Rahayu struggled at the Denmark Open and French Open.[37] [38] Fortunately, their overall results were enough to promote them into the World Tour Finals, after the withdrawal of Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida due to Matsuyama's injury.[39]

2023: Early year struggle, World Championships debut edit

In the first half of 2023, Ramadhanti's World Tour pursuit with partner Apriyani Rahayu was highly affected by injury problems. At the Malaysia Open semifinals in January, Ramadhanti suffered an ankle injury at the second game, which forced her to retire and concede the match to Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan.[40] Similarly, they retired from the semifinals of the Swiss Open after Rahayu suffered a right shoulder injury while playing against Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota.[41] Nevertheless, their semifinal finishes helped them to become the world number 5.[42] Ramadhanti also reached the quarterfinals at the Indonesia Masters,[43] All England Open,[44] Malaysia Masters,[45] and the Indonesia Open.[46] They recorded several first round exits, notably at the Asian Championships in Dubai to Thai pair Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard,[47] and in the Thailand and Singapore Opens to Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi.[48][49]

Ramadhanti played at the Asia Mixed Team Championships, where she lost to Baek Ha-na and Lee Sohee at the quarterfinals, thus eliminating Indonesia from the tournament.[50] At the Sudirman Cup, she won against Jongkolphan Kittitarakul and Rawinda Prajongjai at the group stage, but did not manage to play at the quarterfinals as Indonesia had lost 0-3 to China.[51] In April, she and Rahayu reached their highest world rank of 4th.[52]

In August, Ramadhanti and Rahayu reached the finals of the World Championships in Copenhagen, becoming the first Indonesian women's doubles pair to do so in 28 years.[53] The duo then won their first title of the year at the Hong Kong Open.[54] They become the first ever women's doubles from Indonesia to win the Hong Kong Open title since the inception in 1982.[55]

At her Asian Games debut, Ramadhanti narrowly lost against Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan at the team event, and the pair retired against Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota at the second round of the individual event due to Rahayu's calf injury.[56][57] They withdrew from the Denmark Open to let Rahayu recuperate.[58] The pair returned for the French Open, where they were stopped at the semifinals by eventual champions Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning.[59] Ramadhanti and Rahayu later managed to reach the finals of the Hylo Open. Despite winning the first game and leading at the second game interval against Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu, they finished as the runner-up after Rahayu slipped and injured her right leg, forcing them to retire.[60] Nevertheless, they managed to qualify for the 2023 World Tour Finals.[61]
