Biography edit

Ekert was born on 2 March 1965 in Plzeň.[1]

He graduated from an agricultural university and subsequently worked as a technician, agronomist, and designer.[2]

In the 1996 elections, Ekert was elected to the Chamber of Deputies representing ČSSD (electoral district: West Bohemian Region).[3] He successfully defended his mandate in the 1998 and 2002 elections. From 1996 to 1998, he served on the agricultural committee, from 1998 to 2006 on the committee for European integration, and additionally, from 1998 to 2002, he was a member of the budget committee. Between 2000 and 2003, he acted as the deputy chairman of the ČSSD parliamentary group.[4][5][6]

In 2004, briefly before the European Parliament elections, Ekert served as a co-opted Member of the European Parliament until regularly elected representatives from the Czech Republic took office.[1] He ran as a candidate for ČSSD in the 2004 European Parliament elections but was not elected.[7]

Ekert was also involved in local politics. In the 1998 municipal elections, he unsuccessfully ran for the city council of Klatovy on behalf of ČSSD. He was successfully elected in the 2002 and 2006 municipal elections. As of 2006, he was professionally identified as the secretary to the deputy minister.[8]

In 2010, Milan Ekert was listed as the press attaché at the Czech Embassy in Kyiv.[9][10] From 2014 to 2018, he served as the Ambassador to Belarus.[11] Starting in September 2018, he assumed the role of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan.[12] He held this position until the summer of 2022.[13]
