By day, KVOI is powered at 10,000 watts. But 1030 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A station WBZ in Boston. So to avoid interference at night, it reduces the power to 1,000 watts. It uses a directional antenna with a four-tower array. The transmitter is on North Massingale Valley Road in Marana, near Interstate 10.[2]

Programming edit

KVOI airs a mix of local and nationally syndicated talk shows. Weekdays begin with Wake Up Tucson! Another local show is heard at noon is hosted by Bill Buckmaster. The rest of the schedule includes Doug Stephan's Good Day, The Hugh Hewitt Show, The Dennis Prager Show, The Ramsey Show with Dave Ramsey, The Tom Sullivan Show, America at Night with Rich Valdes, America Tonight with Kate Delaney and America in the Morning with John Trout.

Weekends feature shows on money, health, guns, cars, real estate and the law, some of which are paid brokered programming. Syndicated weekend hosts include Guy Benson, Michael Medved, Erik Erickson and the CBS News Weekend Roundup. Most hours begin with an update from CBS News Radio.

History edit

The station signed on the air on March 7, 1990; 33 years ago (1990-03-07). The original call sign was KEVT. On January 11, 2007, the station changed its call letters to KCEE.

On July 1, 2009, the station swapped formats and call signs with 690 AM in Tucson. AM 1030 became KVOI.[3] Meanwhile, AM 690 became KCEE.

In July 2018, Good News Communications agreed to sell KVOI to Bustos Media. The sale was consummated on October 31, 2018.
