Granville Township is named after Granville, Massachusetts.[3]

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 45.52 square miles (117.9 km2), of which 44.68 square miles (115.7 km2) (or 98.15%) is land and 0.83 square miles (2.1 km2) (or 1.82%) is water.[2]
