Bassi initially grew up in Oslo, playing childhood football for Lille Tøyen FK. His father is Norwegian and his mother Sierra Leonean. In 2015 his family moved to Tromsø, and Bassi joined the youth section of Tromsø IL.[1]

Bassi made his senior debut for Tromsø in June 2022, in an early leg of the 2022-23 Norwegian Football Cup against Skjervøy. He made his Eliteserien debut in April 2023 at home against Viking.[2] Tromsø's assistant manager compared Bassi to August Mikkelsen, and after Mikkelsen was sold in 2023, Bassi eventually made his breakthrough on the first team.[1] He attracted attention from foreign clubs.[3]
