History edit

Alverstoke Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1880.[4] The club had lawn tennis tournaments as early as 1900. In 1909 Gosport and Alverstoke Lawn Tennis Club established the Gosport Tournament,[5] that event ran until 1914 when it was discontinued due to World War One. In 1918 following the first world war the club revived the previous event under a new name called the Alverstoke Open Lawn Tennis Tournament.[6] The tournament was not held during World War Two but resumed in 1947.[3] The tournament was part of the ILTF Circuit and ended in 1981.[3]
